Mid North Coast Women’s Bowling Association

HISTORY

On 19th June 1953 representatives from Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, Bellingen and Dorrigo met to consider the formation and membership of the Mid North Coast District Women’s Bowling Association.  This meeting was chaired by Mrs. I.C. Gray, a member of Sawtell WBC.  Representatives from Kempsey and Nambucca Heads attended the meeting.

At a later meeting it was agreed that Macksville, Wauchope and Nambucca Heads should be accepted into the new Association if they so desired.  Mrs. I. Caisley, member of Dorrigo WBC was appointed temporary Secretary and authorised to approach the New South Wales Women’s Bowling Association regarding the formation of the new District Association.

On 28th July 1953 advice was received from NSWWBA approving the formation of Mid North Coast District Women’s Bowling Association.  The new Association was formally established to include – Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, Bellingen, Dorrigo, Nambucca Heads, Macksville and Kempsey.  Wauchope declined to join the association because it felt distances to travel would be too great.

We lost Kempsey WBC to Macleay District and then we had the following Clubs join us – Woolgoolga, West Coffs, Park Beach, Bowraville, Scotts Head, North Beach and Urunga; 13 Clubs in all.

Unfortunately Scotts Head decided to leave our District on 12th October 2009 and join Macleay District Women’s Bowling Association.

Dorrigo closed their Club in 2011 and this was a very sorry day as we lost some great ladies who gave so much to our District, this left our District with 11 Clubs.

The first Club formed in our District was Coffs Harbour in 1946, this Club is now known as Coffs Harbour Ex Services or CEX.  Next was Dorrigo in 1948, Macksville 1949, Sawtell & Woolgoolga were 1952, Nambucca Heads & Bellingen were both formed in 1953. Urunga was formed in 1954, Bowraville in 1956 – Scotts Head and Park Beach were formed in 1959 then along came North Beach in 1970 followed the next year by West Coffs in 1971.

Since 1953 to 2012 we have had 16 District Presidents including our current President Mrs. Margaret Hoschke from West Coffs WBC.  Mrs. Esme Addison was our longest serving President who served for 22 consecutive years.

We will be celebrating our 6oth Birthday in May 2013.
